Appleton Post-Crescent: Electric vehicles, PCR test, harvesting equipment are top 4 ‘Coolest Things’ made in state

The votes are in, and the top 4 coolest things made in Wisconsin are an electric fire truck, a PCR test, a piece of harvesting equipment and an electric vehicle that people can use to move their beach gear.

The Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce announced the finalists Wednesday in its ongoing, annual Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest. The competition started with nearly 150 nominees, and more than 30,000 votes were cast in the latest round, according to WMC spokesman Nick Novak.

Voting in the final round begins at 8 a.m. Thursday and ends at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 19. The winner will be announced the same day.

Businesses from the northern half of the state dominated the list of top 8 products last week, and they make up three of the four finalists.

The winner will join past year’s “coolest things,” including the 140 Ton Navy Crane from Broadwind Heavy Fabrications in Manitowoc, which won in 2021, and the Mobile Autonomous Robotic Cart from MuL Technologies in Mequon that took 2020’s title.
